Poor Nathaniel. He just wants to help.

-
Having recently taken up boxing, Nathaniel tests his mettle against Mrs. Hawking.
-
-
But Nathaniel isn’t much of a fighter.
-
-
“You must do better than that! And if you can’t, you’d best keep out of the way.”
-
-
The mysterious Mrs. Braun comes to beg for their aid.
-
-
“What would it take for you to kidnap a man from the German embassy?”
-
-
Mrs. Braun is here to get justice for her maid, who was assaulted by a gentleman protected by diplomatic immunity.
-
-
Mrs. Hawking and Mary plot as to how to bring their quarry to justice.
-
-
Mrs. Hawking rebukes Mary for her thoughtless patriotic loyalty to Queen Victoria.
-
-
Clara comes in like a hurricane.
-
-
Mrs. Hawking takes advantage of Clara’s temporary absence to bug the heck out of there.
-
-
“You manage her, if you find her so charming! In this case, I assure you, better you than me.”
-
-
“And where is dear Auntie? Have I frightened here off? Perfect!”
-
-
Clara wheedles a little information out of Mary.
-
-
But Mary tells Clara Mrs. Hawking has changed in ways no one could have imagined.
-
-
Mrs. Hawking isn’t pleased Mary called Nathaniel to help.
-
-
“You look so much like him! Too damn much.” Mrs. Hawking confesses the reason she doesn’t want to let Nathaniel in.
-
-
But Nathaniel wants a real chance to prove himself– the chance she never gave the Colonel.
-
-
“Not now, Mary. We have work to do.”
-
-
While staking out the German embassy, Mary saves a police officer from a ruffian on the street.
-
-
Out cold.
-
-
“Did you do this?” Officer Arthur Swann is surprised at his rescuer.
-
-
The meet cute. “The name’s Swann. Constable Arthur Swann. But you might call me Arthur.”
-
-
Nathaniel and Clara enter the ball at the embassy. They are a very attractive couple.
-
-
Nathaniel checks out the party at the German embassy.
-
-
Mrs. Hawking is not pleased that he’s pushed his way in.
-
-
The help is unimpressed by the crazy rich guy talking to the punch bowl.
-
-
Nathaniel does his best to cope as Mrs. Hawking yet again makes him look ridiculous.
-
-
But Mrs. Hawking’s on a mission.
-
-
Nathaniel does his best to serve as a distraction.
-
-
Nathaniel keeps Frau Gerhard out of her office while Mrs. Hawking searches it.
-
-
“You are a devotee of the German opera!?”
-
-
Frau Gerhard sweeps Nathaniel off to play him hours of German opera.
-
-
Clara brings a little gift for Mary– groceries and some encouragment –guaranteed to get under Mrs. Hawking’s skin. Bonus!
-
-
Mrs. Hawking gets mean when she is tired and frustrated.
-
-
Will nothing Mary does ever be good enough for Mrs. Hawking?
-
-
But Mrs. Hawking wants to make Mary her protege, and there’s nothing Mary wants more.
-
-
Nathaniel burst in to wreck the nice moment. But at least he has some useful information!
-
-
Mrs. Hawking shakes does her own client, as she is wont to do.
-
-
“It’s not my doing!” “Because you’ve done nothing!”
-
-
Mary and Nathaniel lie in wait to spring the trap on their target.
-
-
They beat up the bad guys!
-
-
Badasses.
-
-
That’s it, Mrs. H! Make that guy mad enough to take a swing at a cop!
-
-
Frau Gerhard is horrified that Austerlitz has been spying, and that he calls her a “dumster kou.”
-
-
Mrs. Braun thanks the team for their help.
-
-
She leaves them with a letter, unsigned, but from a very obvious source.
-
-
“You guys did a good job. But stay out of my business, you hear?”
-
-
Mrs. Hawking laughs for the first time that we hear! “Well! It seems we’ve dug under someone’s skin! In that case, jolly well worth it, wasn’t it?”
